Ingredients:-
Tomato puree:
Combine the following in blender and blend it:
2 tomatoes, cut into four pieces
2 tablespoons gram flour
2 tablespoons of water
For Usal:
1 cup dry green peas, soaked and boiled
2 cups water
2 tablespoons oil
2-3 dry red chili
2-3 cloves
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoons cumin-coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
Pinch of pepper powder
1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
1 tablespoon usal masala (if you have)
1 teaspoon ginger paste
Few spoons coriander, chopped
For Tari:
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon green chili paste
1 tablespoon water
Serving:
Sweet chutney
Green chutney
Red chutney
Gathiya/ sev
Lemon slices
Buns/ Bread
Instructions:-
For Usal:
In a pot, heat oil on a medium flame.
Add in cloves, dry red chili and bay leaf, cumin seeds and sauté for 1 minute.
Now add chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin-coriander powder, garam masala, pepper powder, usal masala (if using) and sauté until they are aromatic, making sure they dont burn.
Now slowly add tomato puree and ginger paste, stir and cook for 5 minutes.
Now add boiled green peas, salt, sugar (if using) and mix well.
Add around 2 cups of water or as per your needed consistency.
Let it cook for 5-7 minutes and add chopped coriander.
For Tari:
Heat oil, and give tadka of green chili paste, red chili powder and water.
Serving:
In a bowl/deep plate, add usal.
Top it with tari, sweet chutney, green chutney, red chutney and coriander.
Add gathiya/sev on the top or can have on the side too.
Eat with buns or bread.
