Sev Tomato nu Shak


  • 3 large tomatoes, cut into cubes

  • 1 green chili, slit or chopped

  • 2 tablespoons coriander, chopped

  • 1/2 cup gathiya (or sev)

  • 1 tablespoon oil

  • 1 teaspoon cumin/mustard seeds

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 tablespoon coriander-cumin powder

  • Pinch of asafetida

  • 6 teaspoons sugar

  • Waters needed


  • In a pan, heat oil.

  • Add in cumin (or mustard seeds) and let it splutter.

  • Add asafetida, green chili and tomatoes.

  • Add in salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin powder.

  • Mix well, cover the pan and cook for 2 minutes.

  • Add sugar and water as per your need.

  • Add in the coriander, mix, and cook until you get the consistency of curry.

  • Now add gathiya or sev to it and serve hot.


  • Add gathiya or sev just before serving otherwise it will be soggy.

  • You can have it with Bhakri, paratha, or rotlo with papad or vaghareli chaas.
